You have stumbled upon the modest site of Amy Dupcak [dupe-check].
"Alternative Amy" is my alter-ego for reviewing all things rock at Beyond Race Magazine, where I act as the Features Editor and have been a contributing writer for 3 years. Incidentally, I was also called "Alternative Amy," totally separately, by a co-worker at Kim's Video on Saint Marks Place, where I sold films and records for a year. It must be the Docs.
I created this website with the intention of sharing my journalistic articles, music reviews, and more personal writing, as well as photographs, videos, and other projects. I wanted an online space to display some of my work as well as continually post freshly written reviews and articles that are generally within the vein of "alternative" culture. Column: featured on beyondrac.com, the original "No Alternative" column has me ranting and raving and loving and listing about anything I consider "alternative." Truly opinionated and always fresh from the recesses of my overactive mind, keep checking back for updates.
Album Reviews: most of these reviews were published in Beyond Race Magazine and/or online at beyondrace.com, some of which appeared slightly shorter in print. They are organized roughly by release date, with the newest releases at the top, and are accompanied by cover art.
Other Reviews: miscellaneous reviews of books, films, concerts, stores, etc; some of which were published in Beyond Race or appeared on the website. Additionally, 4 personal "Top Ten Lists" that were published online.
Music Articles: articles pertaining to music and bands, for which I conducted interviews, published in print and online for Beyond Race.
Other Articles: a myriad of articles pertaining to tattoo artists, filmmakers, writers, etc, most of which were constructed through interviews. Also features my short-lived "Crash Course" column that appeared in 3 print issues of Beyond Race.
Fiction: small selection of short stories and prose.
Photo Gallery: a healthy sampling of photographs I have taken (digitally, on film, and even on cell phones) broken up into 6 albums. I did not take the photos in the album titled "exposed."
